Firstly let’s begin with how to get your eircode. Please follow the directions below. Firstly however, if you contact Eircode to ask where to begin, you may receive something to the following effect. Here’ is what we received in response.

Thank you for your email. A copy of your enquiry will be sent to our addressing team for the details to be captured on our database. It may be helpful to know that each quarter; Eircode receives an update with any new properties. At this time any new entry on the address file is assigned an Eircode and an Eircode letter is sent to the occupier of that address. Once Eircode is notified of a new address, it takes one month to assign an Eircode and notify the address occupant of the new Eircode.

Eircode.ie get notified of any new properties on a quarterly basis.
It is AnPost who inform Eircode.ie of the need for new eircodes to be assigned. An Post do not assign or issue Eircodes. The responsibility for these exercises is with Eircodes.
So you need your address to be on that AnPost list that gets sent to Eircode every quarter.
The most important piece to get the ball rolling is to email AnPost at eircode@anpost.ie. You will need to send them the following information: Name, Contact Number, Address, The Address & Eircode you are adjacent to.
When Can You Get an Eircode?
I had a good idea of when we could apply but I wanted to chance my arm a little. Here is my email to AnPost
Hi there, We have just submitted our commencement notice to build a house and now require an Eircode. Name:X. Contact Number:X. Address:X. The Addrees & Eircode we are adjacent to is: X. Thank you, Ronan
Here is AnPost’s response:
Good Morning Ronan,. Thank you for your email. Please note, An Post will only capture a new building when there are rising walls at a location – planning permission submitted, granted or commencement orders are not sufficient. It is only when the foundations are laid and the walls are rising will a building be regarded as ready to be captured and added to the An Post database. Thank you for your patience in this matter.

Anyway, once walls had risen I responded and was put on the list. Next quarter, we showed up on the Eircode.ie map and had our eircode. Now we can apply for utilities like broadband, etc.
However, our eircode is still not registered on Google Maps at this point.
How to add your Eircode to Google Maps
Most people make the mistake of going to Google Maps and registering their home as a business, like a place to stay, lodging or an area of interest. Please do not do this. You may end up with tourists looking to bunk in for the night! I will outline the procedure below in a video but if you prefer reading step by step instructions then let’s begin.
Step 1
Use a PC or a Laptop – not a mobile device
Open Eircode.ie
Get Your Eircode and take note.
Step 2
Open Google Maps and go to your house/ building site location.
Step 3
Right click on the location and choose the option “What’s here”
Step 4
At the bottom of the screen a small box will appear with details of the address and/or coordinates. Click on that link.
Step 5
Then click on “Send feedback” which can be found on the bottom of the screen (on desktop), usually in the lower right hand corner of the screen.
Step 6
Click on “Wrong Address” which should appear. Fill out your address and make sure the marker is in the correct location on the Map.

Fill out the form that pops up. Time to get excited, Google is asking you for your Eircode!
Please be sure to hold on to any automated email you get from Google, as you’ll need this if it’s not fixed within a month.
